Shifting from bottom trawling to gentle fishing — to safeguard our seas for those who come after us

We call for an ambitious restructuring of Danish fisheries — replacing harmful bottom trawling with low-impact gillnetting and fostering a vibrant recreational fishing sector.

At the same time, we insist on maintaining the polluter-pays principle as a cornerstone of sustainable fisheries governance

6 priorities

The Social Liberal Party enters the fisheries negotiations with six key priorities:

  1. Maintaining the CO₂ tax, with phased implementation starting in 2025

  2. More and larger trawl-free zones with real protection of seabed ecosystems

  3. A transition of the fishing sector, including fully documented and traceable fisheries

  4. Improved conditions for low-impact coastal fishing along Denmark’s shores

  5. A vibrant recreational fishing sector

  6. Targeted support for local communities affected by the transition
